Fortunate Life
In this documentary, you will discover how Tamara Bekier’s, art has enabled her to make meaning from the enormity of her life experiences. Born in Russia, Bekier was taken to Germany during World War II and subsequently followed her mother across a devastated Europe. At just 12 years of age Bekier, like so many, suffered unimaginable trauma, and the humiliation has left a lasting legacy. She began art at the age of fifty and through her art, Bekier began to find the missing piece in her life. Bekier’s inspiration is drawn from memories of fear, human endurance and above all, human kindness.
Screened on ABC Television, Art Works, 2021 and at the Art Gallery of Ballarat as part of the exhibition, Tamara Bekier: Between Worlds, 2024.
